Breast reduction surgery aims to remove excessive and unwanted volume from the breasts and reshaping the remainder to a more pleasing, smaller (and often much more comfortable) size. Common reasons for breast reduction include symptomatic macromastia (large breasts causing back/neck pain),
breast ptosis (excessive droop of the breasts) and as part of breast cancer surgery (therapeutic mammoplasty). In each of these cases the nipple areaola complex (the nipple and surrounding skin) have been repositioned. The amount of breast volume removed is tailored to the patients needs. Scars typically fade over 6-12 months.
